Intergenerational Poetry Slam!

Culture Keepers Poetry Slam

Jordan Kayla Mitchell, 9th Grade, reading her poetry to audience

In response to our exhibit “Paper Dolls: Poetic Responses to the Artwork of Ulysses Marshall  PGAAMCC and the American Poetry Museum collaborated to implement an Intergenerational Poetry Slam.  Participants from Gwendolyn Britt Senior Activity Center and students from Suitland High School took part in a 2 month series of spoken word workshops to write poetry and learn techniques for the Spoken Word.  Busboys and Poets restaurant sponsored their performance space for this event.  Typically seniors and teens who live in the same community have little opportunity to work and create together. We are bringing generations together to learn about each other through the dynamic power of art.
